  • Chevy global sales up 6.5 percent, led by the Cruze

General Motors Co. said that its Chevrolet brand's global sales were up 6.5 percent in the first quarter to 1.18 million, led by the Chevy Cruze as its best-selling nameplate worldwide.

Chevrolet raised its global market share to 6.3 percent, reflecting the fastest growth of any high-volume brand for the past two calendar years, the Detroit-based automaker said. More than 180,000 Cruze cars were sold in the quarter, up almost 20 percent over the year-earlier period, GM said in a statement.

The Chevrolet Cruze led the brand with global sales of more than 180,000 in the first quarter, a nearly 20-percent increase over 2011, making it the best-selling Chevrolet nameplate around the world. In addition, sales of the recently launched 2012 Aveo/Sonic small car and 2013 Malibu mid-size sedan are increasing as more vehicles become available in dealer showrooms.

U.S. Chevy sales were up 7.6 percent in the quarter to 448,000 vehicles, fueled by demand for gas sipping cars such as the Cruze, Malibu and Sonic.

  • GM Will Remove Heated Washer Fluid Systems

When General Motors recalled  almost 1.4 million 2006-9 vehicles this week, the company said a system that heated the windshield-washer fluid could cause fires, even in vehicles that were turned off. As part of the recall, G.M. said it would remove the system.

The heated washer fluid system was recalled in August 2008 because a short circuit on the printed circuit board could overheat the control-circuit ground wire. Dealers at the time installed an in-line fuse in the heated washer module wiring.

Dealership service personnel will remove the heated washer fluid module and reroute washer fluid hoses. Customers will begin receiving recall letters this month, but they can contact their dealer at any time to make an appointment to have the heated washer system removed.

  • General Motors Recalls Cars and SUVs

General Motors Recalls Cars and SUVs. General Motors, following in the footsteps of Toyota, has issued a voluntary recall of some of its vehicles. This 2010 GM recall will be one of the largest recalls this year, and will include cars and SUVs manufactured between 2006 and 2009.

The recalled component is the heated washer fluid module. The main issue is that the electricity within the console and the wiring has caused fire in some GM vehicles. So far there have been no injuries reported due to this problem, but GM wants to be pro-active in the recall for the safety of its customers.

According to Freep.com, the following vehicles will be included in the 2010 GM recall:
